Coronary Angiography is a specialized X-ray procedure used to look inside your coronary arteries (the blood vessels supplying oxygen-rich blood to your heart muscle). By injecting a contrast dye that highlights under X-ray, the scan produces detailed live snapshots (angiograms) showing the exact location, length, and severity of any cholesterol blockages or arterial narrowing.
Performed under strict sterile conditions to ensure safety and comfort:
A small skin site on your wrist (radial approach) or groin (femoral approach) is completely numbed with local anaesthesia.
A thin, flexible tube (catheter) is advanced gently through the artery up to the origin of your heart coronary arteries.
A special contrast dye is injected, and live X-ray videos are captured, showing the blood flow and blockages immediately.
