Congenital heart defects like ASD, VSD, and PDA are structural connections or holes present in the heart from birth. When left unmanaged, they cause blood to leak between chambers abnormally, overworking the lungs and heart muscles. Instead of open-chest bypass surgery, modern cardiology utilizes a catheter-based device closure. A customized umbrella-like mesh occluder is guided through the blood vessels to the heart and expanded directly over the hole, sealing it permanently.
